One of the many ways China controls how people think about the government is by censorship. They have a team of an estimated 30,000 people working to control what people can be searched on the web. Google and Yahoo! are controled by setting up programs that do not allow certain key word searches to work. The top 10 Google results using the key words "Tibet," "Taiwan China" and "equality" were all blocked, as were eight of the top 10 results using "democracy China" and "dissident China." This makes it so most websites that are shown are government approved. The problem with this is that google and other such compaines cannot do much about it. Also, many more people are trying to block websites than there are people trying to free the web. This man, Hu Jinto, is one of the major contributors to the censorship.

The censorship does not stop there though they also control what the media can broadcast in China. If the government does not approve a program it is dropped, if a book does not meet certin criteria it is not publsihed, and as seen in the hunger strike people can even be surpressed by force if the government does not agree with them. China controls what is realesed with great sufficiency.

This causes many problems though, one case being asain bird flu. People outside of government do not know for sure how many birds/people have been infected because the leaders control the information that is spread very closely. This makes it hard to estimate how many have been killed, if there was an outbreak, and what they are doing controling this flu. The military is far better at this though. China's intelligence is said to be one of the best in the world because next to nothing is released that the government does not know about.
