Confucius

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 10 months ago

Confucius was one of the greatest philosophers in Chinese history. He was so influential that he is still talked about today and his ideals are still in practice. More commonly referred to as Confucius in Western culture, his name is more accurately translated into K’ung-fu-tzu. Some people regard him as a god while others acknowledge his great teachings as just that.

Teachings and Philosophies

Confucius was a man of great virtue and moral character. His teachings were those that preached nonviolence and tolerance of all people. Many of his teachings were thought of as very controversial as he was highly critical of the Chinese government. In his mind, a government that needed to use violence to control its people had already failed the country. Confucius always talked about peace and he came up with the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would like done unto you.” This was such a powerful teaching and is only one example of some of his lessons that are still in practice today.
